Audacity
	Audacity is a free, open-source, easy to use audio editor and recorder. Record live audio, create podcasts, convert tapes and records into digital recordings and more. Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds  with ease. Audacity allows you to edit and change the speed or pitch of just about any recording; CDs, MP3s, WAVs, AIFFs, and Ogg Vorbis sound files.
	avidemux
	avidemux is a free, open-source, cross - platform video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding of video. avidemux supports AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF file types. Tasks can be automated using projects and job queues. avidemux also has powerful scripting capabilities. Available for BSD, Linux, Mac, and Windows.
	Dropbox
	Dropbox is a free Internet app for backup(s), file sharing and file syncing. Once installed, Dropbox sits on your computer(s) just like any other folder, directory, hard drive, or partition. Save something to Dropbox and access it from any other computer - make changes - and the file is always updated. Share files and folders privately or publicly, create work groups, sync files across computers, networks and platforms! Works on Linux, Mac, and Windows interchangeably.
	Drupal
	Drupal allows individuals or a whole community of users to organize, manage and publish a variety of web content, free. Drupal, combined with other free add-on modules make collaborative authoring, file uploads and downloads, newsletters, blogs, forums, peer-to-peer networks, photo galleries, podcasting and electronic commerce free to create and easy to do!
	ebasePRO
	ebasePRO is free "community relationship management" software for non-profits. Manage membership, contacts, donors, volunteers, and financial data in one database with built-in e-mail and web services. Great for coordinators, administrators, organizers, fundraisers and more. Built with FileMaker Pro (and if you own FileMaker Pro, you can get the ebase source code), ebasePRO runs in it's own standalone version for Mac OS X and Windows.
	Filezilla
	FileZilla is a nice, open-source FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application. This un-power-hungry app allows good site management, connection to several servers simultaneously (and securely), "Quick Connect" to switch on the fly, directory cach(es) to increase browsing speed, bookmarking, and filtering. Available for Linux Debian 5 (Lenny), Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or newer, and Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
	Firefox
	The free, open-source Firefox web browser features integrated search (with hundreds of available engines), tabs, password management, web session restore, built-in anti-phishing and anti-malware, extensive personalization, and thousands of add-ons to extend it's capabilities even further. A unique feature is the Firefox "Awesome Bar" allowing even the vaguest key word to find websites you previously visited. For Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
	Free Mind
	Free Mind is free "Mind Mapping" software to do, well, to plan, just about anything. It's like organized brainstorming. It's making visual diagrams to link ideas together. Make virtually limitless mind maps with nodes that you can fold and unfold, add to, move around, connect to images and the web, export as an image file or a web page, and use plug-ins for things like a calendar. Available for many flavors of Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
	GIMP
	GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free application for photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Use as an image format converter,  paint program, mass production image renderer, batch processing, etc. GIMP makes use of plug-ins and extensions and is scriptable. Compare to Adobe PhotoShop? Well, maybe PaintShop. Available for GNU/Linux, BSD, Sun Solaris, Windows NT4/2000/XP/Vista and Max OS X (requires X11).
	Inkscape
	InkScape is vector graphics editor that has the XML language WC3 standard of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) - a resolution-independent image description as it's standard image file format. Supporting many advanced SVG features like alpha blending, clones and vector markers it's cutting edge, but still in it's infancy. Compare to Freehand, Illustrator or Corel Draw? Available for  Linux, Windows 2000/2003/XP (but not Windows 98/ME) and Mac OS X (requires X11).
	iTunes
	iTunes digital media player application, used for playing and organizing digital music and video files is not open-source, but it is free. iTunes allows you to import (or rip) music from your CDs, Burn CDs or DVDs, view and subscribe to podcasts, buy music and videos online, listen to Internet radio, play movie trailers, set up playlists, make your library available to other iTunes users and access others' iTunes library or playlists on your network.
	KompoZer
	KompoZer is a free Web authoring System that combines easy-to-use WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web page creation, editing and web file management. Compare it to programs like and Adobe DreamWeaver and Microsoft FrontPage. It has a built in CSS editor, HTML color-coding and works well with javascript and PHP! Available for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
	LilyPond
	LilyPond creates beautiful sheet music out of ASCII input. This amazing software determines spacing, line breaks and pages all by itself - lyrics, notes, and chords classically engraved, beams are sloped, fragments are fused. Music can be integrated into LaTeX or HTML and added to OpenOffice with ooolilypond. LilyPond is free, open-source software available for GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and Windows.
	moodle
	moodle is an open-source Course Management System for educators to create web sites for students. Conduct online courses or augment existing courses taught in church or church school. Deliver exciting interactive content; build collaborative communities with Databases, Wikis, and forums; deliver and receive assignments, tests, etc. Use moodle with PHP and mySQL on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
	NeoOffice
	NeoOffice is a Mac-specific, Mac-Native version of OpenOffice (see below) the word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and drawing software that runs on Mac OS X 10.4.11 (PPC and/or Intel) and above. Support for Microsoft Office 2007 (OpenXML) file formats, linear programming extensions for spreadsheets and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros. NeoOffice also features the Mac look and feel, optimized PDF generation, EPS preview, and smooth text kerning.
	OpenOffice.org
	OpenOffice is a free, cross-platform integrated suite of office-type applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and drawing software. OpenOffice can create, open, change and save documents in dozens of different formats, including the latest MSOffice (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) formats. Based on Java, you'll be amazed at everything you can open, change and create in OpenOffice! Works with Mac OS X (requires X11), Linux and Windows.
	OOo4Kids
	OpenOffice4Kids is word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and drawing software targeted to users ages 7-12. It's OpenOffice, simplified. This software will allow children to easily create (think homework) "office" documents at home and still open and save to the formats that may be expected at school. OOo4Kids has different user levels for different children/ages that changes how the software looks and works. Freeware and open-source made for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
	Opera
	Calling itself as the "Fastest Browser on Earth" Opera features  search-enabled toolbars, bookmarks that sync, page zoom, a fast Javascript engine, private browsing, in-line spell-checking and a couple of hundred Opera "widgets" that can be used as standalone applications themselves. Also supports "Opera Unite" that allows content sharing directly from the browser and "Mouse gestures" that allow quick mouse movements to control navigation.
	Podhawk
	PodHawk is a content management system (cms) specifically for audio and video podcasting with an Apache Web Server, PHP 4.3 or above, and a database such as MySQL, SQLite or Postgres8. Podhawk uses the Smarty template engine, has several built-in themes and produces a validated podcasting RSS feed that visitors can use to subscribe to your podcasts in iTunes or any other podcatcher. Featuring easy uploading and management of audio and video files with a range of Flash players.
	Safari
	Safari also bills itself as the fastest web browser out there. Featuring tabbed browsing, popup blocking, inline-find, built-in search, spell checking for every field, full-history search, a real-working page-loading progress bar, very easy bookmarking and second-to-none RSS-reading. Safari's newest features include "Top Sites" to see favorite sites at a glance, and "Cover Flow" that allow flipping through history or bookmarks like albums on iTunes.
	Scribus
	Scribus is a free, open-source, professional-grade layout and design application and Desktop Publishing System that supports ICC color management, color separations, spot colors, EPS and SVG import and export, CMYK color and PDF creation. 	Sea Monkey
	Sea Monkey is an all-in-one Internet suite including a Internet browser, email and newsgroup client, web feed reader, IRC chat, and WYSIWYG HTML editor. It's add-ons include many themes and extensions to customize for just about any use. Built upon the Mozilla Gecko engine, it shares many features with Firefox. The HTML editor "Composer" also shares many of the same features as KompoZer. Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
	Thunderbird
	Thunderbird is a highly-customizable, highly stable, free and open-source e-mail program for Macintosh, Linux and Windows. Featuring advanced security, saved searches, message tagging, web mail services, templates, tons of add-ons and plug-ins, automatic updates, etc. Access your gmail, IMAP, POP and web mail accounts when and how you want.
	VODcaster
	VODcaster allows you to stream live video (instantly and automatically encodes them in iPod format (320x240) using h.264 and AAC) to your own webserver. You can also add podcasts to the iTunes Music Store Podcast Directory, or other service. Drag-and-drop audio and video files, create podcasts and vodcasts in m4b and m4v (iPod video) format all without learning, knowing and/or hand-coding XML. Freeware for Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.
